This is surely really discouraging. But in my opinion, not qualifing into contest does not mean you don't make good music. Judging entries is a matter of judge's personal taste. I personally think your songs are way better than mine. And, at some point, every artist has to fight self-doubt. You've got this!

I've also submitted to the NGUAC this year and I was very disappointed to see that my submission didn't make it, I really planned alot for this contest but well, I really didn't give it much attention because it doesn't mean that I'm not good at what I make, and I instead just pushed myself to make another song to prove to myself that not making it into a contest isn't the end for me. I really love your music and I await a new track from you, I'm SURE so many people do too, I wish me and you and every other amazing artist that didn't make it into a contest the best of luck next time!! <33

I understand why you left the megacollaboration, now.

You need rest. I don't know what it makes 'cause I haven't ever lived it. But don't let the contests discourage you. Take it upon yourself!
For me, participating in a megacollaboration is the biggest dream for me. And I do, thanks to @RunoNG!

Don't give up, continue creating music.

To be honest, when I appeared on Newgrounds, I didn't know that collaborations were waiting for me. Take this advantage, bro!

Well, you're right. You needa take nap.

Bro, don't get so upset about any contests, your music will always be good, even without these contests!

Aw man, that sucks. Hope it will be better soon. Maybe you'll make it next time :) Yeah, take a break. No one can be on the scene forever.

Your music doesn’t suck…
My music sucks… but do I let that get to me? Do I quit? No! I’ve gotta collaborate with Waterflame someway!

A break is very good, but quitting is NEVER AN OPTION! Keep going my friend, we’ll get em next time!

No way I’m quitting, CF! Thanks for the pep talk :)

WHAT?! IS @Creeperforce24 GOING TO COLLABORATE WITH THE OFFICIAL NEWGROUNDS LEGEND?!

@LakieGD someday my friend… someday

Keep the sacred fire! The reason why you do it, for yourself, only yourself, for the love of music! As a mean of expression, no matter what anyone think of your music, it's good for you for as long as you do it for you. I didn't make it into ADM, NGUAC as underdog, but probably wouldn't have made it at your bracket. Never let any failure be an obstacle to your love for the craft, it's more important than any recognition. I hope you get better soon and back into inspiration mode.

Thank you for the encouragement, congratulations on making it into the Guac! I may have failed this year, but I’ll be back next year fs. This is more than a hobby to me, I just really love the creation of music. I will probably be inspired again soon!

I'm so sorry for not seeing this post earlier! Honestly, I can kinda relate to what you feel, since I have tried to get to the KO stage of NGUAC 3 times and only managed to do so once, which felt awfully discouraging.

NGUAC however, like many competitions, has a lot of 'luck' involved, especially because the requirements to get to the next round change every year, so don't beat yourself up over it. Your music is absolutely terrific, 'Guac or not!

You're one of few electronic producers I have had the fortune of coming across who has such good ear for composition. Sure, you may have had a couple bad compos this year, but it happens to the very best of us. Doesn't make your music any worse.

If you need rest, don't be like me; I've had to take 9 months of rest before I could make full songs again. The earlier you rest, the better you heal. Much love bro, and absolutely crush it when you're back! <333333

Thank you SpeedoRH! You’re probably right, I just need to dust myself off and keep going. Also huge props to you for making it in!
P.S. I noticed you called it the Guac, we need to spread this, make it viral

@OVERSCORE Thank you likewise! Keep being great <3

Still don't know how no one has come up with the Guac joke for 15 years. We probably should spread it tbh, it's just funny and silly.

sorry to hear that friend i can relate took a long break from music to regather and am still left with a puzzle so take all the time you need and want you cant make the best you can when you arent feeling your best. i wish you the best :)

Thanks Vae, you’re the best :)

Hey man I understand, I got an even worse score than you much worse. For how strict the judging in the competition is 4.5 stars is an insanely good score man. There were many submissions too, and many talented people. Even if you didn't get full points, don't let it stop/discourage you from continuing your craft, you make amazing and inspiring songs, I just want you to know that :)

Cheers.

Thanks for the nice comment and follow, I’m sorry you got a worse score… I’ll get back to making music soon.

@OVERSCORE No worries. Don't be sorry. It's fine. Great that you are getting back to music making soon. :)

It was always sad when you see very promising submissions not making it far. It's mostly due to just how many insane composers there were this year. For AIM and NGADM, the competition was genuinely quite fierce. Many of the tracks sparked dialogue between us judges.

A sneaky tip that could help you make it far in these competitions, is to be as unique as possible. For instance, for NGADM one of the things I had as a marking criterion was how unique and impressionable a song was. Do I remember it after a couple of minutes or do I just forget what it sounded like? If the judges are talking with each other about your track, that's usually a good sign... or a really bad one.

Also, keep in mind that for NGADM we all had different things we looked for. We got to choose our own marking sheet, so there's a chance that you just got unlucky with what we were looking for. Perhaps you excelled in one thing, but sadly the thing you excelled at had less weight in the score compared to something you may have struggled with.

For AIM, a quarter of the score wasn't even about how good the song was. A song could have been amazing, but if it was not accurate to the art, it may not have scored well compared to an alright song which embodied the art perfectly.

Do keep in mind that you are competing against hundreds of people. All people with varying levels of skill. Going up against those who learnt what a chord was yesterday and those who were there when music theory was made. There are so many different factors that go into these competitions. They're a fun way to gauge how you fare against other opponents, but just like an IQ or personality test, the results shouldn't be taken too seriously.

But I can't stress this enough, some of the tracks this year have been amazing. Don't get demotivated, music is a form of art and art is very subjective. Songs are good or bad depending on who is listening to them. One person might hate your songs, but another may love them.

If you are looking for a good way to improve quickly, always ask the masters for advice or guidance. Ask those who make music that inspires you. If they're on Newgrounds, there's a very good chance that they would be happy to give you advice on what you fall short on and where you can improve.

oh god I wasn't expecting that to look so big
